DHARMA STRASSER MACCOLL
by catherine bailey and simone earnhardt Dharma Strasser Maccoll has been a favorite artist of ours for years. We love her intricate use of ceramics and the masterful way she mixes materials to create texture, tension and depth. Her unusual explorations have led to her latest 'white on white' series, where she stitches hand formed porcelain pieces to paper using silk thread. These works push the boundaries of materials and concept - by exploring cohabitation and the way objects find their place in wide-open spaces. Dharma also creates our summer workshop series, which started three years ago as a way of adding interactive creativity to local artists at our factory. | offer students a window into various forms of ceramic arts. This summer, Dharma is working with artists who use a range of different image transfer techniques on to clay. After three years, the series has evolved to be primarily hands-on with demonstration of process. For some, they learn a new technique to add to their already deep understanding of the medium, for others it's the only art they do all.
