HONORING CALIFORNIA DESIGN
by catherine bailey and simone earnhardt
We're excited to announce that Heath Ceramics will be presented with the Museum of California Design's 2007 Henry Award for Design Excellence.
The Henry Award was established in 2003 by the Museum of California Design to honor a person or company that has made outstanding contributions to design in California. The award was named for Henry C. Keck who designed the conventional, yet ever-widely used Roadside Barrier Light in 1967. "The Barrier Light is the essence of modern design: an attractive, practical object consisting of a circle and a square devoid of unessential decoration. One of the most widely used examples of California design ever produced."
A little about the museum: They are dedicated to honoring California's unique contribution to design furthering the understanding of how design affects the way we live from cups to cars to jewelry to pottery and everything in between. They currently offer traveling exhibitions, educational programming & lectures.
The awards ceremony, along with a silent auction benefiting the Museum of California Design, will be held at renowned architect Steven Ehrlich's Los Angeles' home a modernist architect with an emphasis on sustainability (we like that). The event is open to the public, with all proceeds benefiting the museum. Cost and additional information can be found here. We hope you'll join us...
