My mother registered for Heath Ceramics when she married my father 30 years ago. Throughout my childhood, my mother's Heath dinnerware was present any time there was a special occasion that required special place settings. In my mind, her dinnerware was equated with Holiday dinners and special gatherings and always fostered a sense of comfort and warmth that happy memories often trigger.
Recently, as an engagement present, my mother passed on her Heath dinnerware to me and my fiancé so that we too could enjoy it for years to come. We happily accepted the gift, but realized that we wanted a few more pieces to add to our collection. We thought we were out of luck. (We assumed that the company and dishware no longer existed, since after all, my mother had had it for 30 years).
But one night I was dining at a San Francisco restaurant and noticed the dishware had a warm familiar feel. I noted out loud that the dishware reminded me of my mother's. Someone in my party instinctually turned it over and saw the same Heath signature on the bottom. I was delighted by the idea that Heath still existed. The next day, I typed it into a search engine and that is how I came to find the Heath ceramics website.
Now I am elated to find out that my fiancé and I can register for the same dinnerware my parents registered for 30 years ago. Hopefully we'll be able to pass it on to our children 30 years from now.
