Every piece is still made in our original factory in Sausalito, California and crafted in the same manner as it has been for the past 55 years.
Who We Are
Heath Ceramics is one of the few remaining mid-century American potteries still in existence today. We have been making tableware and tile for over a half-century right here in our Sausalito, California factory. Our crew of 60 skilled craftsmen (many having been here for 20+ years) still makes every product on the premises, often utilizing the methods and techniques developed by Edith throughout her life. The newest addition to the heath story is our Los angeles location which includes a retail space, design studio & art gallery.
In 2003, husband and wife team, Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey purchased Heath Ceramics with a mission to revitalize the company, by placing a strong emphasis on design, handcrafted techniques, and the reinvigoration of the company’s designer-maker legacy. Its dinnerware is used in the country’s top restaurants, such as Chez Panisse, Brasserie 44 at the Royalton Hotel, and The Slanted Door. Its tile graces renowned buildings, such as the Pasadena Norton Simon Museum, and the UC Berkeley East Asian Library, by architects Tod Williams + Billie Tsien.
Heath Ceramics is a 2009 Finalist for Corporate Achievement in the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt National Design Awards, and is represented in the permanent collections of museums, such as the MOMA and LACMA. Edith Heath, an influential potter and designer of the Modernist era, founded Heath Ceramics in 1948.
In December 2008, we opened the doors to Heath LA Studio & Store. Our dream of operating a custom design studio for small custom works within a retail space has come true with the help of potter Adam Silverman. More information here
In April 2010, we opened the doors to our newest addition, the Heath Marketplace at the San Francisco Ferry Building. We're excited to be amongst many like-minded companies and customers alike. More information here
