Qualities

Heathware is famous for its handcrafted feel merged with clean, modern lines. Our belief in honesty in materials began early on and is exemplified today in our signature wiped edge, which shows the natural beauty of raw clay.

Edith created her own stoneware clay bodies (brown & white) both meant to be fired at a low temperature, thus saving energy, while remarkably still producing a very durable & non porous product. None of Heath’s clays or glazes are “off the shelf” – all are original or variations on original Heath formulations.

Edith strived to merge the clay body with the glaze in order to create a finished product that would reflect all the materials used. This quality in combination with our handcrafted process is what makes Heath Ceramics so stunning and unique.

Variation

All of our items are inspected by hand, as we take great care in the satisfaction of our customers and the quality of our products. Irregularities and variation in the glaze color, texture, and finish are inherent and should be expected due the hand-crafted nature of our pieces. We feel that these characteristics only add to the natural beauty and unique quality of our products and are in no way to be considered flaws.

Tableware Care

Heathware can be used in conventional and microwave ovens, and is dishwasher safe.

For warming, ware should be placed in a cool oven and brought to the desired temperature.

Heathware should not be used over or under direct heat or shocked from one extreme temperature to another.

To remove marks left by silverware, dishes may be cleaned with Bar Keepers Friend – available in our Factory Store or online and in most major hardware stores. Stainless steel and some other metals, including aluminum, can mark dinnerware. This is because the surface of the ceramic dinnerware is actually harder than these metals. This is not damage to the glaze and can be removed. If all of the metal used in your establishment is the proper grade of stainless steel (301 or 304 stainless for flatware, 302 for shelving, 410 for solid knives), you can minimize this.
