Edith Heath worked hard to develop a proprietary clay body that would fire at a lower temperature and therefore behave much more like porcelain than your typical stoneware. What does this mean? Heathware is very durable. It’s also dishwasher, microwave and oven safe up to 400 degrees — though we must warn you from shocking it (going from hot to cold or vice versa).
We inspect every item by hand to ensure that each piece lives up to our high standards as well as those our customers have come to expect from Heath Ceramics. Irregularities and variation in the glaze color, texture, size and finish are inherent and should be expected due to the handcrafted nature of our pieces. We feel that these characteristics only add to the natural beauty and unique quality of our products and are in no way to be considered flaws — that’s our opinion, anyway.
Heathware is microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe with just a few stipulations — Heathware should not be placed over direct heat, heated to over 400 degrees, or shocked from one temperature to another. To remove marks left by silverware, we suggest using Bar Keepers Friend, which is available in our factory store, online, and in most major hardware stores. For dishwashing, we recommend environmentally-friendly detergents like Planet Dishwashing Detergent and Seventh Generation. We suggest avoiding more acidic and abrasive detergents such as Cascade and Lemi Shine.
