Wallpaper Care & Service

Here are some practical things you might want to know about ordering, installing and living with, and the design of Heath for Hygge & West wallpaper. If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Customer Service. 

General

For our wallpaper collection, we partnered with Hygge & West—a boutique wallpaper company founded upon the Danish concept of hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) that loosely translates to cozy. It is a woman-founded and run small operation that prioritizes making their wallpapers in America and commissions collections from artists, designers, and illustrators that inspire.

The Heath for Hygge & West Collection consists of four patterns in multiple palettes, all in a quintessentially Heath style inspired by our tile. Designing wallpaper allowed us to take what we’ve learned from designing for and with tile, and apply it to a completely new and different medium. We adopted a material-based approach, deliberately starting by hand and not with the computer. The final patterns don’t look digitally produced, because they aren’t! This is a quality that’s really important in our other product as well, from dinnerware to tile.


Where was the wallpaper made?
The wallpaper is manufactured via Hygge & West in the USA, who we admire for their knack of making high quality wallpaper accessible to a wider audience by demystifying the ordering and installation processes.


What’s the wallpaper made of, and is it fire-rated?
The paper is clay-coated, hand-screenprinted and has a Class A fire rating.


Do you offer samples?
Yes. Samples are available for order online and will soon be available in our showrooms. Each sample measures 8.5" x 11". Online orders for samples receive free shipping and will be shipped to you in 1 week after order date.


Can I order custom colorways in the available patterns?
Unfortunately, no. Because the wallpaper is printed in small batches at the Hygge & West production facility in Chicago, we do not have the ability to customize a "made-to-order" colorway. However, there is potential for additional colorways to be added to the production lineup in the future.


Is there a warranty on the wallpaper?
While the wallpaper is durable and fade-resistant, we do not offer any warranties on the product.

 


 Ordering & Shipping

Where can I order the wallpaper? 
The wallpaper is only available to order online and through our San Francisco (Mission location), Sausalito, and Los Angeles showrooms, or from Hygge & West.


How should I estimate how much I need? 
Each pre-trimmed roll is 27” x 30’ with a straight across match. Vertical repeat specifications range from 32” to 36”, depending on the pattern: Arcade is 35”, Quilt 32”, Slice 34”, and Strike 36”. Here’s a handy guide to determining how much wallpaper to order.


What should I expect after I place my order? 
Once you order, rolls of wallpaper will be shipped to you directly by Hygge & West. Most wallpaper is made to order, which means you will receive it in 3–4 weeks. Online orders for samples will be shipped to you in 1 week after order date.


What if my order gets damaged during shipping?  
If by chance damage does occur, please contact Hygge & West within 5 business days of receipt of order via email at info(at)hyggeandwest.com to arrange for a replacement. Please keep the original item and all packing material. Hygge & West will replace the item at no additional shipping cost.


How do you handle exchanges and returns?
Hygge & West handles all exchanges and returns.

Any non-sale item wallpaper purchase can be returned for a full refund, less shipping, within 30 days from the date of delivery as long as the product is in its original condition and is returned in the original packaging with all inserts. Unfortunately we can’t accept returns on samples or opened rolls of wallpaper unless there is a defect. (In the case of defects, Hygge & West is happy to replace the roll at no cost.)

All costs for return shipment are the responsibility of the customer. Please pack the item well (additional packaging may be necessary) and insure it for the full amount—we recommend using UPS or FedEx so that the shipment can be tracked. We are not responsible for lost packages or items that are damaged in return shipping.

Installation

Can I install the wallpaper myself?
Yes, but we always recommend using a professional installer for the best results. Wallcovering Installers Association is a good resource for installers, offering an accredited installer certification.

Do you recommend using any specific wallpaper paste?
Yes, we recommend Roman 880 Wallpaper Paste, which is widely available.

 


Care & Maintenance

All wallpapers are washable. We recommend using a mild soap that does not contain detergent. Rinse with clear, clean water. Stains caused by grease and oil may not necessarily be removed. Do not use abrasives.

Due to the ink used in printing, there may be a slight odor to the paper when it is first unwrapped. The inks and solvents have all been tested and are safe per OSHA standards. The odor will quickly dissipate during or after hanging. We recommend ventilating the room well after hanging both to speed drying and to allow the odor to dissipate more quickly.
