          Thin Bowl in Blue

          3" H, 6" dia.

          This bowl was inspired by elements of the Japanese tea ceremony. A pale blue bubbles through a matte brown, reminiscent of the Wabi Sabi ideals intrinsic to tea ceremony wares. Revisiting ideas from Design Series 6: Making Small. The Design Series is an opportunity for Clay Studio Director Tung Chiang to create a collection of objects exploring a singular idea or theme every year. The ideas have ranged from shapes like candleholders, concepts like “Forming Fables” or techniques like glaze chemistry. To make this set of pieces Tung took the opportunity to revisit the ideas of Design Series past to create a retrospective of brand new pieces.
