Rock with Holes

Inspired by the visual and tangible relationship between ceramic and stone this piece is both rock and vase. Thin plant cuttings can be arranged into the openings to further blur the line between nature and man made object. The Design Series is an opportunity for Clay Studio Director Tung Chiang to create a collection of objects exploring a singular idea or theme every year. The ideas have ranged from shapes like candleholders, concepts like “Forming Fables” or techniques like glaze chemistry. To make this set of pieces Tung took the opportunity to revisit the ideas of Design Series past to create a retrospective of brand new pieces.
