For Design Series 4: Glaze Chemistry, Clay Studio Director Tung Chiang created this form as a blank canvas to experiment with the myriad ways glaze can interact on a surface. This combination of pale green and light grays is reminiscent of the subtle variety that can be found in stone. The Design Series is an opportunity for Clay Studio Director Tung Chiang to create a collection of objects exploring a singular idea or theme every year. The ideas have ranged from shapes like candleholders, concepts like “Forming Fables” or techniques like glaze chemistry. To make this set of pieces Tung took the opportunity to revisit the ideas of Design Series past to create a retrospective of brand new pieces.
