Los Angeles, CA
We wanted our first location outside of Sausalito to be more than just a retail location. Our dream scenario consisted of a space that would emphasize the making as much as the displaying of the work as much as the gorgeous end result. And by golly, that's exactly what we got, thanks to our friends at Commune Design.
Each location showcases our dinnerware, tile, and homeware products from like-minded designer/makers around the United States (and beyond). And, like any family, each kid, err, we mean showroom, goes about it in their own way:
Adam Silverman is Heath’s LA Studio Director. In addition to working with LA Studio Manager Alex Reed to direct development of original pieces, he also contributes to the design direction of Heath as a whole, develops events and shows in LA, and engages with the local creative community.
The partnership between Heath and Adam Silverman has resulted in truly extraordinary work. Adam’s work in ceramics is wholly personal, but also maintains a tangible tie to Heath’s design history.
Adam also continues to work as a ceramic artist, pushing the limits of scale and creativity through his independent studio in Glendale, Los Angeles. Learn more here.
Making and Curating
Inspired by iconic mid-century design houses and by Heath's designer-maker legacy, Heath Los Angeles includes a studio where original pieces are designed and created for our three showrooms, as well as for the local Los Angeles design, restaurant and hospitality community.
An integral part of the design process is, of course, inspiration. That’s why we maintain a gallery space where we host shows with artists, makers and thinkers who inspire us, and who we think will inspire our community. Shows and events have included Akio and Friends (a show with acclaimed Japanese ceramist Akio Nukaga), David Mellor, Alabama Chanin, and Geoff McFetridge, and numerous talks and book signings.
If there's a tile project in your horizon and you have yet to visit our Los Angeles showroom, you just might want to swing by the next time you're in the neighborhood. Installation boards cover two of our walls while the back wall is tiled from head to toe in various shades of blue and gray. Our kitchen's backsplash showcases the whites from our Modern Basics line, our classic oval dimensional tiles line the corner entrance outside in a glossy blue, and our working tables are clad with paprika Dual Glaze tiles.
Bring your clients, or just yourself. Either way, we're available — 7 days/week during regular showroom hours — to help or for sheer inspiration.
