los angeles // home plate: heath la + Skid row housing trust

Bring us you're dinnerware! August 1-31, 2010

We're proud to announce a collaboration between Heath Los Angeles and Skid Row Housing Trust, an organization that produces, maintains, and manages innovative (and affordable) housing for those in or around Skid Row in Los Angeles, California. The collaboration represents our ongoing support of local community projects, as well as offers a way to trade in their existing dinnerware collection. No guilt in past tableware collections going to waste - you're encouraged to swap your existing dinnerware pieces in exchange for a 25% discount* off any corresponding Heath item.

Heath LA will be collecting dinnerware donations in exchange for 25% off* any corresponding piece of Heath dinnerware—i.e. bring in 10 of your used Pottery Barn (or Calvin Klein, Crate & Barrel, etc.) dinner plates and receive 25% off* 10 new Heath dinner plates; bring in 8 mugs, receive 25% off* 8 new Heath mugs, and so on. We will then donate the collected dinnerware to Skid Row Housing Trust, who will in turn place them within one of their communal spaces or with one of their newly housed individuals. You win, we win and they win!

Home Plate will run from Sunday, August 1 through Tuesday, August 31 at HEATH LOS ANGELES. For more info, call 323-965-0800.

* Discount applies to first quality only and cannot be combined with any other offer.

los angeles // playmountain visits heath la

We're very excited to welcome one of Tokyo's most respected design stores, Playmountain, at Heath LA this summer (June 5 - September 5). Founded by acclaimed designer Shinichiro Nakahara and renowned for its unique and constantly revolving collection of modern home accessories, Playmountain has fast become Tokyo’s first stop for design enthusiasts.

Heath LA will feature an eclectic array of Playmountain products including its newest line, Chin Jukan Pottery, a collaboration between Nakahara and Korean potter/designer Hyejeong Kim inspired by and fired in a historic 400-year-old Japanese kiln with origins in Korean craftsmanship. The result is four series of modern yet modest, highly-designed yet functional ceramics from tableware to home accessories. The summer shop will also incorporate original, handmade children’s toys from Nakahara’s children’s line, Chigo; clothing by Playmountain’s neighbor, Loopwheeler, a small Japanese manufacturer that uses vintage loopwheel looms, which date back to early 1920s Germany, and which, because of the slow, quality-first approach, only process eight sweatshirts a day; and products by TEMBEA, a manufacturer known for its high-quality fabric bags durable enough to tote and bundle firewood but stylish enough for daily use. Plus, new products will be arriving throughout the 90-day event.

Enjoy our photos from the opening celebration set up, which was June 5 at Heath LA.

SF ferry building// yes, we're open

Our SF Ferry Building location is open for business. Among the many highlights - a monitor with a live-feed of our Sausalito factory allows visitors to feel like they are right there, watching as our pieces are made. If that taste of production leaves you wanting more, we've coordinated our weekend factory tours with the ferry schedule from San Francisco. And last, but not least, the 500 sf space is tiled with five Heath installations - dual glaze, bowties, kiln shelves, field and a stunning wall of over eighty 2x4"s showing every color tile offered at Heath in one installation. We hope you'll visit all day, every day. In the meantime, some photos for you to enjoy.
