General
Jacob May Design is an Oakland, CA-based design company founded by woodworker and designer Dave Ball. The company specializes in producing classic American Furniture and furnishings that are simple, elegant and built to last for generations.
The Nomad Collection is an elegant, streamlined 14-piece collection featuring collapsible dining tables, side tables, coffee tables, and benches. The tables come in several sizes with two types of tops (Classic and Patchwork), and all pieces are available in three different finishes: Oxidized Oak, Natural Oak, and Natural Walnut. Each piece is made to order by hand from domestically-sourced wood.
Ordering & Shipping
The Nomad Collection is available exclusively through Heath and is available to order online, and from our San Francisco (Mission location), Los Angeles, and Sausalito showrooms. The entire Nomad Collection is on view in our San Francisco and Los Angeles showrooms, but please note that since each piece is made to order, there is a 6–8 week delivery time for all orders.
Each piece of Jacob May Design furniture is made to order in Oakland, CA. After placing your order online or in a showroom, please allow 6–8 weeks for delivery. For white glove delivery service, please contact Customer Service at 415 361 5552 x12.
Furniture Assembly
Conceived for the often “nomadic” way we live today, each table and bench is designed to be easily disassembled, flat-packed for easy shipping and storage, and re-assembled with just a single tool (included).
Each piece of Nomad furniture has an assembly tool stowed under the leather flap on the bottom side of the top surface. All connections are metal to metal, so there is no risk of stripping over time. There is a small relief to help align the surface and legs.
Care & Maintenance
Finishing practices used at the studio reflect the belief that furniture only grows more beautiful and unique with age. What that means for you: your Nomad piece will wear gracefully and develop a patina through use. Each piece is made of solid wood and completed with a hand-rubbed oil finish. Water rings, scratch marks, and other effects of normal use will appear, disappear, and blend over time.
To clean surfaces, whenever possible simply wipe clean with a damp cloth and then dry immediately. If soap is required for the Natural Oak furniture, only use Rubio Monocoat Natural Soap. For Oxidized Oak or Natural Walnut furniture, we recommend Mohawk Cabinet and Furniture Cleaner.
Consider applying a restorative wax or oil finish periodically, if you’d like a more refined look. For regular maintenance, we suggest Rubio Monocoat Refresh Oil for Natural Oak, and Howard Feed-n-Wax for Oxidized Oak and Walnut furniture. Please note the Rubio Monocoat Refresh oil care instructions.
Want more guidance on how often to oil? There’s an old woodworker’s adage that suggests, “Once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, and then once a quarter thereafter.”
