BEAMS is bringing its traveling EXPEDITION CLUB exhibition to Heath San Francisco, following iterations in Tokyo, London, New York, Osaka, and Portland. From November 5–8, 2026, come and explore outdoor culture, fashion, collecting, and creativity.
Built around OUTDOOR EXPEDITION BOOK 99 by Shigeru Kaneko, Chief Buyer at BEAMS, this pop-up explores the history and culture of outdoor apparel through Kaneko’s extensive collection of rare vintage outdoor pieces.
The exhibition at Heath SF will include a selection of objects from Kaneko’s personal collection, with historic outdoor brand catalogs from the Outdoor Recreation Archive at Utah State University Libraries. Visitors will be able to handle and browse archival catalogs that are typically held in secure storage.
BEAMS is also releasing new pieces inspired by Kaneko’s collection, including new colors of its down cape and a new down muffler as part of an exclusive product drop, available for purchase through the Heath Newsstand.
The pop-up kicks off with an opening reception and panel discussion on Thursday, November 5th at 5pm. Moderated by Dr. Rachel Gross, the panel explores the importance of outdoor culture, with a specific focus on California. Panelists include Shigeru Kaneko, James Thomsen, and Chase Anderson. Shigeru Kaneko joins us from BEAMS PLUS / EXPEDITION CLUB, as their Chief Buyer and author of OUTDOOR EXPEDITION BOOK 99. Dr. Rachel Gross is a Professor at the University of Colorado Denver, author of Shopping All the Way to the Woods, and historian of the outdoor industry. James Thomsen is the Co-founder of Wilderness Experience, outdoor industry executive, and serves on the board at the Yosemite Climbing Museum. Chase Anderson is the Co-founder of the Outdoor Recreation Archive and Industry Relations Manager in Outdoor Product Design & Development at Utah State University.
