The Neck Vase features a precise transition partway down the profile creating not only a distinctive form but an opportunity to showcase our love of glaze and its many beautiful and unexpected combinations. This piece combines two matte glazes—Basalt over KPFA—to create a cool, muted elegance. Originally created as a one of a kind design for Design Series 2, the Neck Vase has become a favorite of Clay Studio Director, Tung Chiang. Each vase is thrown and glazed by the skilled hands of Jeff Perkins and Alex Corrin in the SF Studio.

Part pottery studio and part design lab, the Heath Clay Studio is where a small team of potters and glazers develop one-of-a-kind pieces and objects.

We recommend hand washing studio pieces with a mild, non-acidic and non-abrasive dish detergent, such as Seventh Generation or Planet Dishwashing Detergent. Please note that direct use on wood may cause water marks or scratching.

Designed by Tung Chiang and handcrafted in the Heath Clay Studio in San Francisco, CA.

In order to achieve the two-tone glaze, we apply one glaze, wipe the top part, and then apply another layer of glaze over the entire surface. It’s a labor-intensive and skilled process, but it lets us showcase the beautiful range of our glazes.
