This simple and practical mug is decorated in a bold black slip. After bisque firing Akio applies colored slips and then glazes the pieces with translucent matte glaze. Beautiful to see and incredible to hold.

In 2009, Akio traveled overseas for the first time to exhibit and share his pottery with a new audience at the Heath LA showroom. Since that show, Akio has brought new work to Heath every year, and the friendship that’s formed along the way is as soulful and alive as the objects themselves.
