Born in Kyoto, Japan, Yuko Kan earned a masters degree in sculpture from Tama Art University, where she began working on woodblock printing. In 2016, she discovered a new fascination with wood sculpting, exploring the craft of both woodblock printing and carving to create her own whimsical world. Her work can be found numerous solo and group shows across Japan.
The Boiler Room is a place to find and connect with one-of-a-kind creations by artists whose work, stories, and values inspire us. As part of Playmountain East, a year-long exploration of the work and processes of Japanese and Japanese-influenced artists and makers, we’re thrilled to announce our newest Boiler Room exhibition featuring Yuko Kan’s woodblock prints and carvings. Stop in, say hello, and enjoy.
