Granddaughter of Marie Gullichsen, one of the four founders of Artek, Johanna Gullichsen is committed to a modern interpretation of Scandinavian textiles, bold and simple patterns, and natural materials. She launched her Normandie collection—playing with graphic lines and colors inspired by an era of luxury ocean liners and their colorful deck chairs—at Artek as an exhibition in 1997. Designed to fit and complement Alvar Aalto’s stools, Johanna's Disc Cushions bring these textile traditions to life in circular form.

Johanna Gullichsen began the Normandie collection by hand-weaving variations in design. Finnish weavers Lapuan Kankurit—whose textiles you’ll also find at Heath—put her collection into production, and the fabric is still made there today.
