Dear world,
This week rocked us, you, and so many. The day, nor the year, feel decipherable. There is anguish and outrage, collective unrest. And, amazingly, there's still beauty.
Dear world, for decades we’ve continued the legacy of a company diverse in culture and socioeconomics, that has fed the community and its people. Committing to the diversity of jobs and people under one roof, makes us responsible for everything and everyone and that’s by intention. And today, we see there's a lot more to be done. Growth is continual. Our work is never complete.
We do not tolerate racism. We stand with black, indigenous, and people of color. We recognize their need to speak and be heard. And, we acknowledge that we can, and will do more.
Let's walk together. We must be part of the change...
Make it Beautiful
We'd like you to know about a black ceramicist named
Doyle Lane. He was of a similar era to Edith & Brian Heath. His remarkable work went unrecognized during his lifetime. His glazes crawl, bubble, crack, and melt, in ways that will make your heart sing. Going forward, we commit to speaking up about people, places, and things of color—whenever possible.
Teach us.
Make it Last
We're in it for the long haul. This moment is not new, it's tragically hundreds of years old. What's new are the conversations we're having and the actions we're taking—inside Heath, on the streets, in our homes, with our children, and with the person in the mirror. They are hard. This is hard. We will not always get it right, but we won't stop trying.
Make it Happen
The products we carry are by craftspeople making beautiful, ethical pieces, regardless of race or gender. This will not change. What will change is that we'll carry more products by black, indigenous, and people of color. Do you have craftspeople to recommend? Please send a note directly to our buyer,
Ryan. We're here to learn.
Make it Together
Every job at Heath is in-house, from design to manufacturing to warehouse to sales to janitorial to safety and the list goes on. We're a diverse crowd. This makes us agile—we flex from one core. From the start, it's been imperative that we employ our community and make jobs equitable. Can we make even greater strides? Yes, we can. We start with the 150 people who make up Heath—our staff.
Make it ...
Here, we make metaphorical space for what we don't know yet—for what we have to learn. There is much.
Talk to us. We're
listening. With love and inclusion, Heath Ceramics
