Viewing Stones are admired for the extreme beauty that emanates from their ugly and jagged features. These stones were traditionally taken from places like Taihu Lake in China where they were shaped over decades by the turbulent lake waters forming dramatic pores and holes. They were popular as ornamental objects among royal families and scholars are still used in traditional Daoist Gardens in China today.

Lake Taihu is a traditional source of Viewing Stones. The dramatic appearance is the result of millions of years of wave action, slowly eroding away softer stone, leaving behind an often abstract shaped rock that has numerous holes or channels.
