Stan Bitters’ influence on California arts and crafts dates back to the 1960s, when he established himself as a Modernist sculptor who followed the lead of his material, letting the organic nature of clay show up strongly in the finished work. Bitters’s ceramic murals, fountains, and sculptures can be found throughout California and beyond, in numerous public spaces and private residences. “I want as many times as I can to retain that look and attitude of clay and what it is.”
